Updating Android to ICS

I plan to update my Galaxy S2 from 2.3.4 to ICS.
First of all, is the update worth it?
And secondly, if I do decide to go ahead, is there any way to backup all my apps, including their data

Email etc is not such a problem, as the sync is fairly efficient, but I have spent quite a long time on various games, and would rather not lose my saves.

When i upgraded my Sensation, all game progess was kept on the sdcard, just had to get the games again/restore backups.
