Help Updating apps?

How do I stop the apps from updating automatically? It keeps telling me that I have insufficient storage when I only have three apps I downloaded myself. I want to stop them from downloading and updating because most of them are the ones that I never use (ie system apps). I remember seeing this option before, but I don't remember how I did it. The Maps app is the one that pushes it over the sufficient storage limit. I never use it, so I don't see a reason to have it updated.

Edit: When I have the insufficient storage error, it prevents me from sending new text messages.

Open up your play store, tap menu, settings and the 2nd one in list is the auto update option
