Root Updating Desire and disabling dialler

I have just updated my phone and I am thinking of setting up the phone so the kids can use it for games etc.
The main things I want to do to it are...
1. most importantly I would like to completely disable the dialer. Since there is no sim card in it, it says it will only make emergency calls and I don't want the kids accidently doing that. I would still like to be able to use the WiFi though.

2. possibly install a new rom that is as small as possible. I currently have Oxygen on it and I have heard that dGB is one of the smaller mods out there. Maybe if there is a mod that doesn't use a dialer at all, which would help with point 1.

3. I have seen that you can fix the low memory problems by partitioning the sd card. I would like to try this as well, but not sure if it needs a particular rom to do this.

DGB is certainly the smallest ROM out there but it doesn't support sd card partitions. It does however support stock style move to sd. Oxygen does support app2sd+ via an ext3 or ext4 partition and is quite small so you might as well stay with that.

There are 2 ways that I can think of to diable the phone:

1. install titanium back up & in the apps list select the phone app then press freeze. This will temporarily disable it until you defrost it in the same way.

2. Open the oxygen zip file on you pc and select system>app and delete the dialler app. Then reflash the rom via recovery. First of all though I would make a copy of the zip file or take a nandroid back up via recovery as the oxygen website is now closed.
 
Just to clarify my previous post:

If freezing via titanium the app is listed as Dialler. However if deleting the .apk file from the ROM zip file to reflash it is called Phone.apk.

Of course if you are S-OFF you can just uninstall Dailler via Titanium.
 
OK, I have the Rom and Dialer sorted out with Titanium backup, but the problem I am having is using my SD card as internal memory. I couldn't find how to get it working with Oxygen.
I tried the Wildmild rom which installed fine. I then tried to one of the scripts from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Then when I rebooted it went into a loop on the bootloader screen.
I then tried modifying the zip file as mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031467&page=45 , but the recovery wont accept any zip that I modify. This was the same with both the previous recovery (can't remember what it was) and I currently have the 4EXT recovery installed.
I have got the SD card partitioned as FAT32 and EXT4.

I have actually found an easy way to get this done.
I installed the Cyanogenmod, and then installed S2E (Simple2ext) fro the Play Store.
Then I just froze the dialer and other files I needed to.
 
I'm glad you got it working. Oxygen has apps2sd scripts built in but it probably won't move apps that are already installed to the ext partition. I think You would need to reinstall them. It won't move data or Dalvik cache either.

Personally I avoid sd partitions as I feel they slow the phone down & introduce instability but many people use them successfully.
