Help Updating firmware?

Current version is I9000XXJM1.

To be honest, find it a bit laggy.

Are there better versions of firmware available? Which ones?

If I root it first then use titanium backup, can I just copy the entire directory structure back in after firmware update?

The newest version is JM1 I believe. Try rooting it and then applying a lag fix first. See if that fixes it.
