Help Updating galaxy s2 firmware

adi_naz

Lurker
I want to update my galaxy s2 firmware to the latest official Samsung firmware. Just want to know, are all of my applications and data going to delete because i paid for the apps and i dnt want to loose them.

no, they should stay on your phone. IF they don't, then the market remembers the apps you paid for and allows you to reinstall them. it does not remember free apps you've installed.

if ur rooted you can back up apps using titatnium.

Actually market remembers the free apps too... It does list down my installed apps (most of it), and if doesn't can always search the app and if go to that specific app, it does show downloaded usually. At least for those few I noticed.

Cheers

But if you lose data on your phone, either deliberately through wiping or accidentally through flashing, it it won't remember them then.

I see. Maybe the phone won't remember them, but I suspect the list is still on the google server. Else it won't remember even the paid apps. I noticed that if I went to the google server via PC, you can access a list of downloaded apps but somehow not everything is shown. But if go to the app (that is not shown) directly, it still shows downloaded.

I suspect even without the viewable list, the listed downloaded apps is still there somewhere in the servers.

Cheers

If you ticked the backup my data box when you first set up your phone all apps which you downloaded should be remembered by the market after you reset your phone. The downside to this it will only remember you've downloaded the app but won't save any data such as game saves. It also seems temperamental in the fact that it never seems to remember them all.

When I first got my phone I flashed a frankenstein firmware. All my data and apps were lost. When adding my google account back on, the market remembered my paid for apps, but none of the free ones I'd downloaded.

I'm sure this has been discussed on a thread before, and others have found the same.

I always found that half were there and the others weren't. Its why I don't bother backing up to google anymore and use titanium instead.

FYI, When I switched from Vodafone magic to Sim free Galaxy S2, I found that the markey had remember my paid apps but NOT the free ones.
Fortunately, I had backed up the apps first with a free backup app and then just downloaded the same app to the Galaxy S2 and they all restored OK.
Of course, I lost the game data, like the level I was one etc, so I would always advise using Titanium Backup now (It's great!), but I am not sure if this backs up the game state if you are not rooted.

Same here..... but the list of installed apps show up in the phone just fine when you go to the market and go to My Apps.

Weird huh
