Updating problem

Hi. Is it possible to alter the updating policy so that I can update at my choosing?
As it is, if I want to do a quick check of my emails, whenever i turn on my tablet, it starts updating anything that needs it and I have to wait until I can get into my emails.
This is not the way Linux handles updates and as a regular Linux user, I just get frustrated.

Depends on the email app you use, and if the email server you have supports push. If the email app and server doesn't support push, it won't update like how you say it. It will only update based on the refresh schedules set in the email app. Some apps I think may have a feature to update/refresh on opening the app, but that's about it.

If you mean app updates, you can turn auto update off in the play store settings and just update manually when you wish.
