Help Updating to Android 2.1

Hi all;

I am one of the holdouts that has never owned a smartphone until now. I bought an Eris after realizing that it will save me on prepaid minutes if I use it with VOIP on Google voice.

After reading some reviews it seems a negative of the phone is it comes with Android 1.5 instead of Android 2. How can I upgrade the OS?

Thanks

The Eris received an over-the-air upgrade to Android 2.1 in May 2010. Do you have the phone? If so, are you sure that it has only 1.5 on it? In the rare case that is true, there are ways to upgrade to 2.1 - but no reason to bother if the phone is already at 2.1.

(You can check at settings->about phone and, I think, Software Information - look for Firmware Version.)

When I got my Eris a couple of months ago it had 1.5 on it. After scouring the Net for several days looking for a way to upgrade it, I finally called HTC and learned that the 2.1 upgrade was no longer available for download but they'd gladly upgrade my phone if I would send it in and pay them $80. Riiiiiight! So I rooted and flashed a 2.1 ROM (xtrSENSE) onto it. I haven't had any problems with it since (except for the common HTC battery and memory issues).
