Updating to Gingerbread in Canada

version01

Lurker
A few questions about updating to 2.3.

First, I'm currently using a 551 on the Bell Mobility's Canadian network. Would updating with the European software cause any issues? Should I wait for an official Canadian release?

Second, my phone seems to be network locked. Do I have to unlock it before I can upgrade to 2.3.

Thanks in advance!

You can but you shouldn't .Canada/Bell dont have stock firmware available (or do they ?)
without proper amss_phone you may have problems with GPS and 3G . If you are lucky ,european and canadian radios may be cross compatible .If not ,you will have to live with it .
You can try willing's cyanogenmod which doesnt flash the amss_phone . It works on Froyo Bootloader too .
