Help Updating Xperia L Problem

I'm trying to update my Sony Xperia L from Android 4.2.2 to 5.1.1. I've been following the instructions on this page here :

It was all going fine until it asked me to boot into recovery mode. I couldn't seem to do this manually so I used Recovery Reboot and then there were 5 options:

reboot system now
apply update from ADB
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
enter fastboot mode

Like the instructions said i selected the wipe data/factory reset option and that ran fine (it only took a couple of seconds), however there was and is no advanced options menu option below the fastboot one like it says there should be. how can I fix this so I can do the rest of this?

It doesn't mention anything about unlocking the bootloader, have you done that already? That's normally part of the process for getting CM on your device.

Is that like rooting? Because I'm already rooted?

There's a bit more to it than that. How did you root? Did you download anything or get an unlock key from the Sony Developer website?

nvm i understand what you meant now. thanks for the help! ive followed the instructions in the link you gave, but I can't seem to find the directory its talking about in step 2: http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/imei-verification/b9c4326fd98ef21cdc085b135c558209/

where in my c drive is Android SDK > extras > google ? I cant even find Android SDK
