Root Upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4

1. No, root access is not a prerequisite for flashing with Odin. Download mode (vol down+home+power) is.
2. It does not matter, since you're doing it from scratch, with the repartitioning and everything. The Odin flash will simply wipe your phone clean and set up the JVP.

I'd say you're good to go :) what will you use for backup?

Well, you can use Titanium Backup which will back everything up - only it requires root :D just make sure to backup USER apps and data, NOT SYSTEM apps and data because you can run into some trouble.

Just installed 2.3.4 and thought I had backed everything up with Titanium Backup but I've got nothing. I also used MyBackup for contacts etc but everything BUT contacts showed up there (and I'm still not sure how I get that back up info from my online save location back onto the phone...). Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I did a manual update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 and when the phone was supposed to reboot it never did and now I can't get the phone to come on anymore>>>>>I have tried the manual reset and nothing happens>>>>>has anybody heard of this and have a clue what I can' do? I have looked online for a while and I haven't found anything like this happening

Hi all. My Galaxy S is currently on android 2.3.3 (jvo) and I want to upgrade to 2.3.4 (jvp) using this method in link.XXJVP Android 2.3.4 Firmware for Galaxy S [Download/Install] | TheAndroidSoul
1) Do I need to be rooted to use odin?
2) Does it matter at 2.3.4 version is jvp not jvo as my current version is jvo?

Thanks in advanced

I went from 2.3.3 (JV6) to 2.3.4 last night with Darkys 10.2 (google Darkys rom...). Just as easy as flashing a normal firmware via Odin plus you get rid of a pile of low grade pre-installed apps and Root as well.
