Upgrade Time HELP!

Ok,

So I already have rooted Desire and my other line is up for upgrade now.

Problem i'm having is T-Mob UK Cutting data allowance soon, so Ideally I need to upgrade before the 16th Feb to keep my 3GB.

Issue is there are no phones worth upgrading to at this time!

Nexus S is ok, but not great and I refuse to pay

I have recently bought the samsung galaxy s, am wondering how to upgrade to the 2.2 version (currently am on 2.1)...am new to all this android stuff, how much would it cost to upgrade?

I live in New Zealand (am on the vodafone network) if that helps.
