Upgrade to GSM? Lose your old plan

I'm thinking to INSTEAD add a phone @ $25 promo...unlimited text/voice/zero data-- switch on wifi when data needed OR from hotspotting to the other phone...hhhmmmmm......

My brother did that with my niece. That plan is unbeatable money wise.

hard to lose 100mb of data streaming? lol i think i can lose that much in 20 min. but every1 is different.

The only plan i ever had that is worth missing but im not worried about it lol

Thats not data streaming, thats youtube, or pandora.

all other web is unlimited. I downloaded 30 gbs of tv shows over the weekend because my cable, tv, internet, was out.;)

The speed was 4.2mbps

You are right optimus, with my $40 grandfathered plan I was able to download anything from movies to complete discographies.

well i used up my 40 hours pandora limit earlier this month lol even shared with shabby so yea that $40 plan would of never been enough for me. also the $25 plan has no mms meaning cant send no pics or sound files to another person.

I rarely watch youtube on the phone, and pandora, ya I like it but can usually listen over wifi. Though this phone line is my wifes and she does not listen to pandora anyway.
I would say under normal circumstances the 100mbs of multimedia last 3 1/2 weeks for her.

Mail@Metro (dont use)
Pocketexpress (dont use)

Navigation (havent used it in 2+ years)

I'll definitely miss it when I have to upgrade.

Rhapsody is a add on I'm sure on the byod plans u should be able to add it on for a lil more.

We just upgraded a customer who is on a very old family plan. *How old was it?* It was so old, taxes and regulatory fees are not included in the monthly rate!

Because the current family plan discount cannot be combined with his old family plan discounts, his options were to (1) change all lines to current service plans or (2) change his line to a current service plan, but receive no discount, and leave the other lines alone. Either way, once any line gets changed, it cannot get changed back to its old plan. He decided on option (2).

Prior to the change, he was paying about $122 per month after tax. After changing, he's going to pay $40 for his line, and about $103 after tax for the other lines. It occurred to us that, if he changed all lines to current service plans, his bill would be an even $140 and wouldn't fluctuate every month because of tax. However, he'd been in the store for over an hour already, so he was pretty anxious to leave and said he'd just change them some other time.

When you upgrade to a new GSM phone, they will make you change to a current plan. I have a Motion and am grandfathered in to the $55/month plan. I bought the F3, but if I want to upgrade my phone, they'll force me on the $60 plan. I decided not to upgrade just yet. I figured this needed it's own thread so people won't make the same mistake.

Hm.. I don't think that happens when you buy from wirefly or any other place online, not sure though. Can you get the $5 discount?

Your best bet is to go to another dealer. They are trying to make money into the scam of changing your account. These dealers. Dont let that happen. On a old 3G plan going to 4G then yes you will need a new plan. A 4G plan to GSM with BYOD I have customers that have their same plan.

I'll ride my GS3 and $30.00 per month plan until the bitter end. Unlimited talk, text and 250megs data per month data suits my needs fine.

250mb? how do you live? I'm kidding lol, but seriously, I go through that in like a day or two, more power to ya

Sounds like my situation, must be the right solution too. :D

Does anyone know if I could keep a promo rate ($30) if I switch from one CDMA 4G phone to another?

no, your SOL unfortunately

I would call Metro or check with them on Faceplant about this.

AFTER the $55 Promo plan was no longer active I switched from my Motion to my Spirit and kept it. Now, IIRC, I had to switch over the phone as the promo plan was no longer showing as a choice on-line.

The requirement I'VE heard to change plans to a current plan ONLY comes into play changing from a CDMA plan to a GSM plan. THEN you Have To have a currently offered plan (supposedly, at least according to Metro on Faceplant).

From what I was told/read in the paperwork and emails, if you're going cdma to gsm, you have to switch your plan, bottom line

yes to switch to gsm but the original question was cdma to cdma.

yes I just did so from the esteem to the cdma s3.

It required calling in and speaking to a person though, the automated system, and the online would not give me that as an option.

There is at least one person posting here who has made the CDMA to GSM switch and Kept there old promo plan. OTOH, they did that through "a buddy" at Metro or a dealership.

My point is though, apparently it CAN be done within the system, it's just that company policy is they are going to make you have a current plan. (And they DO appear to be doing a pretty good job of sticking to the policy.)

Actually I dont think they did keep the cdma plan they had, it just happens the cdma plan they had was the same as the gsm plan they got.

Ie they were on the $50 2.5gb plan they went to the $50 2.5gb plan.

I specifically recall one poster saying he was on a PROMO plan and kept it with a new GSM phone.

Honestly, I just don't care enough about the discussion to bother trying to find the post.

(You got to change to get GSM is close enough to Fact for me. If I were Metro though I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for me to switch over for $60 more a year.)

I am almost positive I read that same post and after reading more on it I think it turned out that his "promo" was not really a promo, Or he went from the $50 unlimited to the $50 2.5gb And just did not realize it.
I agree I am not paying and extra $240 per year to keep what I already have. I believe in 15-18 months they will give me a reason to switch. Another promo with the same or close to the same service and pricing.
I could live with a $45 unlimited, or even a $40 5gb.
If not, well then I can hope, and likely be right, tmo LTE will be available to other providers such as straight talk.
