Help Upgraded to lollipop

3db

Newbie
I upgraded the android version from Kitkat to Lollipop and I noticed that the "Smart Remote" by COlor Tiger no longer functions. I'm not sure if there is an incompatability issue with Smart Remote App and lollipop or if lollipop disable the IR blaster. I sent ColorTiger an email asking them to look into the situation. Is there I should do with Samsung?

I would first contact the developer. They may not have updated their app for Lollipop yet.

I did contact the App folks and am waiting back to here from them. have you heard anything about lolllipop disabling the IR blaster functionality?

Any other first impressions of the upgrade, pros or cons? Debating whether to apply to my dad's tablet or not. He doesn't like change and I'm usually in no rush either.

I don't have any Samsung devices running 5.x yet, so i couldn't tell you if it effects the IR blaster, but there haven't been any previous mentions that I know if. I would assume if it universally caused problems users would be screaming bloody murder about it.

I would hold off on the lollipop upgrade for Samsung's Tab 4
if I were you because it disables the IR blaster. I've been working with Color Tiger, the Smart Remote App people and ever since the lollipop upgrade, it has stopped working.

Below is a response from Color Tiger;

Wow, that's really strange. I've just checked our internal logs, and we have 14 other customers with the exact same tablet and Android version as yours, and they all report that the IR is no longer working after the 5.1.1 update. Even more, our app is not able to detect a functioning IR at all (it's like the hardware isn't present).

Furthermore, I decided to install a free remote app and the free app complains that there is no IR blaster capability found.

I'm going to follow up with Samsung. My initial reaction is to back out of lollipop but I don't know if this is possible. How is Samsung involved with Android when it comes to OS glitches like this? Who fixes this issue?

I called Samsung and they are washing their hands of the problem redirecting me to Google instead. However, they are unable to give me a contact number or email in which I can contact. Does anyone have a contact link to Google's Android to report issues like this.
