Root Upgrading from cog to serindipity question

I'm going to reflash my cog, to serindipity 5.12. I've heard this is thee most stable rom and fastest. I have backed up my apps/data w titbackup, and also backed up my cog rom with clockwork mod, incase anything should go south. I know this has been asked before, but is it necessary to flash to factory before installing serindipity? Or can I just clear all the cache? Im assuming that I should copy all data from my internal to my HD and do a master clear, reflash to stock then do the new rom. I don't really wanna do a master clear but if I must, oh well. I have been hearing bad things about the new cog4....I'm currently running cog 2.3b6. Let me know what's best procedure. Thanks!

wow why are you running such an old cognition, there may be some problems with the new one but im sure its far less than that one. but yes it is always recommended you go stock first, you probably could go straight to serendipity but you will probably run into problems either during the flash or a week down the road

I don't know if you've already done this before or not. I wanted to share my experience though. My first time switching from Perception to Serendipity, I went through the whole Odin Master clear process. It kind of took a while and you had to re-root and re-install quite a bit to get it back to re-do another ROM. So recently I've just been flashing over my old ROM. I've been doing both clears in CWM recovery and disabling lagfix before I do anything, but it seems to be working great for me so far. I've successfully done that three times now.

COG 4.3 runs like a champ for me
only bug i noticed is when you slide to answer the call, that bar skips just a little bit, other then that, theres no lag what so ever

I've heard about a lot of success too with NOT going back via Odin and doing a Master Clear, but if you run into an bugs with the new ROM, it will be hard to tell if the bug came from the new ROM or the old ROM...just my opinion. I always take the extra time to Odin, Master Clear, and root, CWM, then flash the new ROM. This entire process takes me less than 30 minutes, and thats with taking the time to read the directions before each step to make sure I'm not missing something...although, I'm getting pretty good at it and don't rely on the instructions as much anymore.

Does it mean I have a problem if I have this process memorized?? I guess I just can't leave well enough alone.....always have to mess with it in one way or another!

I agree. Since I don't flash frequently (just when Serendipity has a major upgrade) I'd rather take the few extra minutes to perform a complete enema. This way I'm sure that any issues that may pop up are Serendipity-related and not due to leftover crap (pun intended).

I have a quick question on the Serendipity kitchen. There's a couple of the apps there (gtalk for example) that I want to add onto my phone when I flash to 6.3 (currently running 5.11, time to make the switch). But I'm not exactly sure how to add the stuff from the .zip I generate in the kitchen. Is there a basic tutorial someone can link to that will explain it to me?

Just put the file onto your phone's internal SD and boot into recovery. They choose to install zip from sdcard and select the zip file. its the same procedure as you would use when updating the serendipity roms

So I just do that after I've already flashed to 6.3 then right? Because it looks like from the file zip of the zip that it doesn't include 6.3 with the apps I've selected off the kitchen.

yea the rom kitchen items are only "Add-ons" to the serendipity rom. so flash serendipity 6.3. make sure everything is fine, restart the phone, and then boot into recovery afterwards. its best to fully restart your phone after each flash to prevent any problems

Also give some time between the time the ROM updates comes out to when you try to use the kitchen. It takes ChanceM time to fix up the add-ons and update the kitchen.

I always flash back to stock and do a master clear. Why mess with what's working? Besides, from beginning to end it only takes me about 45 minutes or so to have a new ROM and all my apps, etc. back.
