Upgrading my PC.

So I went on a eBay bender and bought up some stuff I thought would be an improvement on my current setup.

Replacing my Core 2 Duo E7500 is a Core 2 Quad Q8300. $113 after s/h. A difference of $36.99 I'd pay on my usual shopping spot, Newegg. 430MHz slower than my current CPU but it's a Quad and from research on the web I maybe able to get this up to around 3.5GHz.

Next up replacing my Mobo which is a Biostar G41-M7 is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R. $71 after s/h. According to this site: gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R PCSTATS Review - Overclocking the Gigabyte motherboard this mobo is a very good overclocker. At least for the E6750 they used to test with.

Replacing my current memory which is 2, 1GB sticks of G Skill F2-6400CL5-1GBNQ DDR2 800 RAM is 2, 1GB sticks of Super Talent T8UA1G8C5 DDR2-800 RAM. Super Talent isn't widely know like Corsair or Patriot or anything but I've read that these modules overclock well. $35.98 even free shipping.

Finally for now, or until the rest of my stuff on eBay sells, replacing my current CPU cooler which is a ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro is a Zalman CNPS9500AT CPU Cooler. Heard they were good for cooling Quads. $28 after s/h.


I think next up will be a PSU. Probably be this: hec X-Power Pro 600 600W Continuous @ 40
 
If your going to upgrade, why not go with an i3 or i5? ddr3? I dont see a reason to upgrade to old, out of date, hardware. Save up and get higher end items.
What's your budget for the new rig, maybe we can help.
 
It's not a matter of wanting the latest and greatest. I just want a decent step up from what I'm running now on the budget I have. Which after all my merchandise I have on eBay sells should be around $413.

Already spent $247.98 on the parts I mentioned. Leaving around $165 left.

Think I'm gonna trade up the GTS 250 for a Radeon HD 5770 and get a new case to put everything in. Maybe pick up a RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular LED Power Supply too.

eXtreme Power Supply Calculator recommends 434w for the setup I want, Overclocking included. My current PSU could handle it but it's kinda old.
 
You do not want to go with what is recommended, you want to go blow away the recommended....especially with a PSU. I would invest in a Corsair or Antec over a raidmax.
 
I used to use a NVidia 9800GT video card. Its a 1GB GDDR3 card. I played warcraft on full ultra settings with frame-rates at max the entire time no hiccups at all. Its available at Best Buy for about $100. I would reccommend this.

Also, 2GB of ram is very little in today's world, I would go to at the very minimum 4GB (I use 8)
 
Just be sure that the PSU's +12V rail(s) can handle it. The 5770 requires a minimum of 34A.
If you're not sure what your PSU's +12V is it should be on the label on the side of it. Don't worry about the -12V rail, only the +12V is what you're looking for. If it has 2 +12Vs listed, add them together. (If you already know all this, I was actually just typing this in for other readers....... :) )
