Upgrading SD card

MoCoTerp

Newbie
If I upgrade my SD card from say 8 to 16 gigs... can I merely copy over the directories from my old card to my new one so that my apps still work the same? Are there any hidden files or directories I need to worry about?

Somebody can correct me here, but I think the only hidden files are old caches. And you can see them in astro or estronger if you enable them to be see.

I upgraded my 4 gig to a 16 gig simply by inserting the old card into a card reader then copy and pasting the files to the 16 on my macbook.

i copied all the files on my sd to my c drive, dropped a new card and copied them back. no issues at all.

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I searched but couldnt find the answer if there was one already.

Is there a thread that has recommendations for new SDHC cards? I only have the stock 2gb card in my HTC Incredible and want to upgrade to a 16gb card but not sure which one would work best from people's experience. Kingston, Sandisk, Transcend, etc.?

Thanks!

Basically, as long as you buying a packaged card in america, your going to get a decent card. If your buying from ebay and/or overseas, you'll want to check the card to make sure you got a good card.

As for class of card, I don't recommend buying anything over a class 2 for a cellphone. Most electronics stores don't stock anything over class 2 anyways.

As for me, I bought a 16GB card from the loose stock at Microcenter (Minnesota's version of Frys) and ran a test and it was as advertised.

Thanks Chroma! I was actually thinking of going to our Microcenter today to see what I could find. I appreciate the advice.

Just copy the entire contents of the old card to the new. You'll need some kind of adapter, but most cards come with them. I went from a 4gig to 16 gig with only one minor glitch. All the custom ringtones that were stored on the card were reassigned to mp3's in my music folder. The first time i got a call and heard Billy Joel, I didn't even realize it was my phone ;)

Thanks for the help everyone! Won't make it to Microcenter today but online it looks like all the have is 1 8gb now. :( Amazon has plenty and like EmoTonyB I'm partial to Sandisk also cause I've used and abused the cards in my photo equipment and they just seem to last. Just wanted to make sure because some devices work better with certain manufacturers cards.

Thanks again!

I was looking @ micro sdhc cards on Amazon earlier today, specifically 32GB class 2 cards, & saw a bunch in the $110-120 range if anyone's interested. :D
