I bounced back and forth about rooting mine and going with a custom rom. I finally did it because I wanted 6 and they were not giving OTA updates for it. I use the stable Cyanagen Mod and flashed it with TWRP. I am a noob, so it took me a few times, but now my tablet runs like a charm and I don't have the factory bloatware.
