Uploading to website

I'm a newbie to Android and expected to be able to do all the basic things you can do on the PC, including uploading files to my website. Is it correct that this is not true - that you can't upload files unless they are images etc?

I have a website and I'd like to upload technical updates to my website after downloading them from the supplying software house's website. But when I try to select on my website a file to upload, android only gives me the standard dialog to upload pictures, video or music. How do I upload other (inc executable/zip) files without having to program (I'm not a programmer).

I basically need a more comprehensive file selection dialog so that when my website calls it, I have a zip/exe file function.

Help please!

Where is your website hosted and how to up upload files to your website from your PC? Do you have FTP access to the server to upload files? If you do, Android has a number of FTP clients that you can install.

Thanks for your reply.

My website is hosted on my own webspace on a Joomla! setup and is very straightforward when using my PC. I don't need to get involved with FTP and working that way wouldn't help anyway because the whole process is handled through a form from a file on the Joomla! system. It's just like selecting any file on your own computer (I assume it's via https? because you access the setup pages on a secure browser).

Because you're suggesting alternatives, am I right in thinking that for some reason it's not possible to simply select a non-picture/media/sound file using Android? If so I can't understand why? And is there no app that over-rides the standard dialog and allows a non-media file to be selected?

Why ever is this not an option??! Does nobody else want to do anything similar?

Further feedback appreciated either from you or anyone.

Thanks again.

It has never been a problem for Android to upload any file for purposes such as yours. I just uploaded a file called report.xml. It didn't work when I tried to use Root Browser file dialogue but worked when i chose the default explorer file dialogue.

I have never experienced any situation where a file dialogue appeared which restricted the types of files which were permitted to be uploaded, such as only pictures, music files etc. I suggest using the default file explorer file open dialogue if it gives you the option on the Nexus.

It would be good if you detailed the steps you take to upload the file, including which Android programs you used in this process.
