US VZW N3 Users Traveling in Europe - Does the VZW Global Data Plan and Voice/Text Work OK?

I'm off to Germany and E Europe (Austria/Czech Repub/Slovakia/Hungary) for two months, and need to decide if VZ's Global Data Plan and voice/text gives good service, or if I need to get another carrier and change SIMs for the trip. Everybody at VZ says 'no prob,' but I've heard that before. Their prices are OK, and I would rather not complicate things with another carrier, if I can help it - anyone have any experience with a US VZ Note 3 in that part of the world? Thanks!

I travelled in various European countries throughout January and bought local PAYG SIMs as usual.

Note to EU residents. All EU roaming charges will end December 2015 (I think that's the right date) thanks to EU parliament That won't help you as you are from the US except you will only need one EU country's SIM throughout the EU soon. Further note - warning that doesn't include Norway, Switzerland which are non EU countries.
