Help USB 3.0 issues

So, in the beginning, I could plug the S5 into my laptop, and it would pop up instantly with the regular media option selected. I then would select to use USB 3.0 and it would disconnect and reconnect and sync with Kies, as well, the folders would pop up (windows explorer) so that I could transfer files over 3.0.
Now, when I plug it in, it does the same initial pop up, then when I switch it to USB 3.0 on the device, the windows close, but they don't pop up again, etc. As well, when I open Kies 3, it just keeps spinning, trying to connect. Any thoughts? Nothing has changed on the Laptop, but lots has changed on the phone, as far as new apps etc. It says that the drivers are up to date as well.
Wondering if there is an easy fix, or if it will required a factory reset to try it?

Thanks

edit: I did try to search prior to posting, but found no results on this forum, possibly because USB is too short, and there was an issue when I put "USB 3.0".

It may and may not are you rooted if not do you know cmd or how to manual load drivers

Not rooted.... not familiar with manually loading stuff, like that. Just weird since it was working fine and then stopped, nothing changed... that I know of.
I can't remember if I have run USB 3.0 since running apps like clean master, etc, that may change things?

The S5 USB 3.0 is interesting.

First, in full 3.0 mode, the phone goes into airplane mode, with all RF shut off. I won't guess about the reason why; perhaps its conserving processor resources.

After about 3 or so minutes of no data transfer, it reverts back to USB 2.0 mode, and the RF functions return.

Kind of 'clunky'. You have to connect / disconnect to return to 3.0

Also, I'm not seeing any spectacularly notable data transfer speed difference between 2.0 and 3.0. Yes, it's faster, but it certainly does not make you sit up and take note.

I have all the finest cables, etc.

Personally, for the occasional loading in of music or loading off of photos, I'm not seeing a huge need for 3.0, nor any major, outstanding benefit.

I think the time out is 10 minutes, at which point, I used to just pull down the notification bar and hit the USB option and hit 3.0 again. Last night was a late night, didn't get to check after rebooting the computer... but I also didn't find transfer speeds that much faster but for me, I just think if it did work before, I want to know why its not working now.

I think the 3.0 was intended for use with transferring large data fast before it laps out something such as movies or multiple movies. Maybe if you give it a big task to do the 3.0 will stay live . and the PC may see this and keep the drivers first and the 2.0 will stay as a backup

Yes, the USB 3.0 is for monster files that would require hours on USB 2.0

Normally the stuff we send back and forth is fairly small, under 100 kB most of the time, and once in a while maybe 300 kB.

But an upgrade for the phone, or supplying Chainfire (XDA fame) with a full ROM takes several hours. There the faster speed can be advantageous, IF doing it OTA, Download Booster would be great but mother Verizon will not let us do that.

It is not a Deal Breaker either way, but it is convenient when needed.

I need to fully grasp Root. On my last Android device, I had one click root, but never used it to any ability, such as custom roms, etc, etc. I just did it, because I could... Need to get some reading in.

USB 2.0 shouldn't be slow and take hours. I've only got USB 2.0 on my computers, and even transferring gigabyte HD video files only takes a few minutes. It's capable of 480 megabits/second, which is far faster than any current LTE technology AFAIK. There's USB 1.1 which is slow, but that's only really used for things like keyboards and mice.

What can be slow though is MTP, can be much slower than UMS. Although myself I do all file transfers via WiFi using AirDroid. Slower than USB 2.0 with UMS, but still OK even for large videos. I really do it this way save plugging things in, also I'm not using Windows(because of the country I'm in), and MTP on a Mac I found to be unreliable.

you caught my dislexic fingers.... I meant downloading OTA takes hours.

USB 2.0 as you state is much faster.
USB 3.0 is better but not dramatically so.

Just FYI

I think this is just goofy. Why not LEAVE usb 3.0 active, cause data from modem/file transfer usage will go back and forth faster, taking less time to do so, and it will charge faster.

At least mine does anyways.

Nahh that wouldn't work cause its the PC that will kick back with a pop up about the USB hub is a unknown driver .

I never said anything about a HUB. The Samsung usb 3.0 driver would be fine. I just think the phone should STAY in 3.0 mode instead of having to switch back and forth between 2.0 and 3.0/airplane mode.

You guys just aren't getting what I am saying. They should have made the phone USB 3.0 FULL TIME. not having to manually switch back and forth.

That is how it SHOULD BE, not this crap they have now.

Its a reason for everything . 3.0 USB is to move large amounts of data quickly. It maybe good to have only thing is most of the PC/laptops have the 2.0 .

Yeah, MOST.. But even still, the usb 3.0 cable is compatible with 2.0 plugs. And if the 3.0 does move data faster, there is less battery usage and processor usage for such tasks since it does them so much quicker.

Again, you guys are not getting it.

I get what you're saying. Hook up the firehose all the time. If all you get is akin to a garden hose so be it. But if you get enough water to use the full open flow of the firehose it's always there regardless.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to say that I do "get what you are saying", and find this "feature" to be totally ANNOYING. If you ever hear of any way to stop the stupid timing out of the USB 3.0 connection, please let me know. :) I use it to transfer weekly nandroid backups to my PC. Since that takes a few minutes (it definitely IS faster than USB 2.0 - I did a time study on it and posted that info on this forum) I usually step away from my PC to do something else. I also like to do a full backup of my SD card (have seen too many of them suddenly cease to exist, from the smartphone's viewpoint) which is second backup operation. The S5 can't seem to do both sets of file transfers at the same time. I keep multiple nandroids on the S5 in the TWRP directory, so I don't want to copy the whole TWRP folder, or the file size would be too big to save on a weekly basis. I only copy the nandroid I have just made over to the PC each week.

When I have not noticed the copy of the nandroid was done, and I want to then copy the SD card files, it times out the USB 3.0 connection unless I catch things quickly, and then I have to fiddle with things to get USB3 back. Sometimes I even have to reboot the PC (Windows 7). It's just a stupid PITA that they set it up this way.
