USB Audio - ZTE Zmax Pro

Cybotive

Newbie
Does the ZMAX Pro not work with a USB audio accessory connection? I have a USB port in my newly self-installed stereo receiver, and I didn't even know USB audio for Android was a thing until I used it with my Nexus 5X. I've been spoiled with using the controls on the stereo. But when I tried it with my new ZMAX Pro, it was opening a list for me to choose from "USB For Charging, Install Driver, Media Transfer, etc..." I even installed the JVC app (which actually made the audio connection not work on Nexus but it was worth a shot) and it didn't change anything. Am I just stuck with using the 3.5mm jack? Does this have anything to do with no support for OTG? (also, can someone running the latest update install and open an OTG checker to see if they added it, maybe it's not supported due to hardware)

The app just bugged out, which is why there's duplicate.

Look in Developer Options. I don't know if it works but it's there...

Ooh, that looks promising. The dude from ZTE had no idea what I was talking about, but he said it doesn't support it

Thanks! Who knows if it'll ever work again, but after 5 minutes of continuously selecting Audio Source, my stereo said "And" and I was like FINALLY.

It's very finicky, I have to go into dev options every time and it takes a couple tries, but when it works, it stays working until I disconnect.

Okay, I found something that works every time. Plug in device, turn on receiver (in any order), wait for the receiver to give up and say "cannot play", go to dev settings, it should say audio source, click on audio source selection anyway, it'll go to charging only, then audio source, receiver says reading and 3 seconds later it's working.

With a Pioneer receiver Ive had no success getting USB audio to work. It's a sad thing in 2017. I was using a 2009 iPhone for USB audio and here it is 8 years later with a phone that does nothing. People who use Bluetooth audio aren't audiophiles, it's way to lossy. Not as bad as 3.5 aux though

How is 3.5mm worse than BT? 3.5mm has no loss, it just relies on the internal DAC to sound good. The receiver has to use Android Open Accessory 2.0 in order to work with Androids.

Really, the 3.5mm auxiliary jack on the front of your car stereo relies on technology that has remained virtually unchanged since the 1960s. Before we new what high quality even was. The only way 3.5 aux could ever sound half way decent out of anything is with a external DAC or a DSP. It's just not possible in its analog form. It's just a headphone jack. 3.5 Aux also delivers "crosstalk" I'm used to FLAC files over USB or 256 mp3 so I can definitely here the difference. I'm in the DSP world now, so I'm processing all my sound so maybe I'm just used to finely tuned music using pink noise. 3.5 is being phased out as is, phones, etc. Bluetooth is not.

All the jack is, is metal contacts, no reason to change it. The analog signal is just being sent over some wires, and the jack terminates the wire. All audio is analog, when square waves. No matter how much digital stuff is going on, the speakers are analog. The only way to change the "unchanged since the 1960s" is to use an entirely different technology to produce sound waves. And even then, sound waves will always be analog.
