USB-C port limited to Quick Charge v1.0?

Does the phone have ability to Quick Charge with an appropriate charger? Current charge is about 1% per minute. 100 minutes (1 hour 40 minutes) for a full charge from 0% to 100%.

Why would they add a USB-C port without Quick Charge ability? If that's the case, it will make it much more inconvenient for everyone to easily charge their phone (because Micro USB cables are currently the norm).

Any insight into Quick Charging this phone?

I don't know how to check to see if the phone's firmware supports quick charge but I do know that the snapdragon 617 which this phone has, has quick charge capability.

Yeah, it seems to charge at 1% per minute. So, a 30% to 100% charge would take 70 minutes (an hour and 10 minutes). Although that's not terrible, I don't think we're witnessing "Quick Charge" technology?

The battery depletes much more rapidly than the original ZMAX which means that a user might expect to need to charge the phone more often. If I'm ever out and about and need a charge I can always find someone with the standard Micro USB charger/cable. Much less likely to find someone with a USB-C charger. I guess I need to invest in a USB-C to MICRO USB adapter to use for such emergency's.

At this point I'm not really impressed with battery life and I'm questioning why they even implemented the USB-C without actual Quick Charge. Are there advantages to the USB-C port beyond just the ridiculous convenience factor of not having to have it oriented properly?

I was very impressed with battery life on the original ZMAX. Not so much with the PRO. Perhaps I need to experiment with battery saving settings a bit more.

I believe usb-c has faster data transfer rates than standard micro-usb. Also, I don't see how it's such a huge inconvenience with usb-c being less common since I usually just keep a charger with me anyway. Lastly, I'm not seeing the battery life issues you speak of.

I've been averaging 5 to 7 hours of screen on time per charge which is just as much as I got with my original zmax back when it was new if not more.
Also, I keep the brightness at 50% with auto brightness turned on.

By the way, from what I've read there is a "break in period" with these lithium ion batteries and how well they perform is determined by the first 5 to 10 charge/discharge cycles. It's best to drain the battery down to 10-20 percent and then charge it all the way in one shot and then repeat. This is most important during the first few cycles. When I get a new phone I will not connect the charger until the battery is below 20% and I won't take it off the charger until it is fully charged. Doing this, I've seen the battery life get better with every power cycle. When you only partially charge the phone it lowers the capacity and shortens the overall life of the battery. I understand that sometimes you just need a quick boost to get you through the day but it's best to avoid this whenever possible.

Good advice! I will try adjusting display settings and watch for improvements. Yes, I agree, I had read that about battery charging as well. I always let the first few charges completely deplete before re-charching.

My problem is, I like to have a nice, bright screen. Even with my screen at 100% on my old ZMAX, I got excellent duration.

Overall I like the ZMAX PRO. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining too much. It's definitely the BEST NEW PHONE ever sold for $99. I have used lots of phones (paid $600 once) and my experience with the original $99 ZMAX was the most enjoyable of them all. I will always support ZTE, a great, innovative company!

I find this screen way too bright not too far past halfway point... it hurts.
@10% works for me. By way of comparison, I keep original Stylo @40%.

that about matches me... I went from 59 to 100 in @40,, plus /minus 5 min.
This while continuously using it.
If we figure in that this will improve on a new phone... and charging while unused... I'm OK with it.

I can't believe some reviews say the zmaxpro has poor brightness. It's brighter than the original Stylo when comparing both on the lowest setting.

It's brighter than the original Stylo on highest settings for both devices but one thing I noticed...the colors are more accurate on the zmaxpro as well

Everything has now come full circle...starting from the reviews that originally kept me from initial Zmax.
 
According to the MeteoPCS site, the phone supports Quick Charge 1.0. Not the most impressive speeds but better than nothing. I would've liked to have Quick Charge 2.0 or higher, but I got an external battery pack awhile back and I could just use that if needed.

And even though it has a reversible USB-C charger, its still only USB 2.0, so still only limited to those standards. Even though USB 2.0 can support Quick Charge 2.0, but whatever...

I think the reviewers complaining about brightness don't deselect the "auto" button. If you like a super bright screen, deselecting auto and putting it at 100% is VERY bright. It just uses up the battery a lot faster.

I agree, the color tones and solid whites on ALL models of ZMAX have been better than the STYLO. I've compared them side by side. I have yet to test the STYLO 2 Plus. The other thing I don't like about the STYLO is the on screen function buttons. Wastes screen space.

I really don't understand what ZTE was thinking when adding the USB-C port without adopting any of the standards that you mentioned. The port ends up being something of an inconvenience (when on the go... without access to your own adapter). Hopefully USB-C will become more common.
 
I picked up a USB-C dock for work from Amazon, and another for home, but for when I'm out and about, I also ordered a couple of those little micro-B to USB-C adapters. I figure I'll put one in my bag and another in the car and I should be good to go.

I'm gonna have to get a couple of those (the small adapters) too, not necessarily for charging but for my micro USB flash drives. I have 3 of them and now they have lost their use until I get an adapter.

I'm with you on this. Over the years I've collected many USB cables and use many of them, those that my dog hasn't chewed threw... yet. I'd need to order those adapters and carry them with me. But I bet they added this feature for the fact it's reversible. Though, it would've been real nice to have the featuews of USB 3.0. Hell, would wish accept Quick Charge 2.0 if they had to stick with USB 2.0.

That might work. It might be as simple as getting a charger that is stronger than the 2 or 2.1 amp charger that comes with the phone. Also, if the chip supports quick charge 3.0 we probably just need a kernel that supports it.

On my next trip to Micro Center I'll get one to experiment.. may be a few days though... it's kinda out of the way.
 
I've got my own gripe now concerning the fact that this phone uses USB type c. I could get a 9.8ft micro USB charge cord (I already have one made by Belkin and love it) for only $10 at my local Walmart but they don't have a type c cable that long and want $22 for one that's only 3ft long. I checked best buy and they have one that's 6ft for $20 but that's still ridiculous to me. I really don't want to get some cheap, off brand cable from the internet. So far I've only found one type c cable made by a reputable brand that was 9.8ft long and it is type c at both ends and costs $29. In order to use it I would need a new wall adapter with a type c port, and/or a type c (female) to USB 3.0 (male) adapter which could end up costing me $50 or more by the time I get all these things. I'm left to choose between getting something from an unknown brand, getting something that is shorter than what I want, or paying a lot more than I want to pay...choices choices.

Couldn't you just use a MICRO USB to USB-C adapter on the cable you already own? You can buy a pack of adapters (3-5) for $8 or so. They're tiny little adapters that clip on the end of the MICRO USB cable to make it a USB-C cable.
 
Looks like it does indeed support fast charging. Found this on YouTube today...


Now, I wonder if it actually supports Quick Charge 2.0 or 3.0. Gonna have to get a Quick Charge 3.0 adapter and give it a try!
