USB cables and charging time

Always bought the cheapest if I needed one and they work just as quick as the official ones I've always had. Maybe I've been lucky.

Depends alot on wire gauge and voltage drop over the length of the cable based on quality of the conductor.

Ditto, cheep ones are decent for me but the best have always been the tgick lg cables. I prefer them over samsung cables.

Depends more on the charger. Standard GS3 charger is a 1 amp. You can find 2 amp on amazon.

Yea thats why my 2amp samsung charger on a kendle fire cable, ver thin. will charge if my screen is off but if it is on or I am wifiteathering it wont keep pace but same charger, same phone, thick lg charger cable, will charge no matter how much power the device is using.

And with my jambox cable by jawbone with 2amp samsung charger, it would take 9 hours to charge fron 20% while on with screen off

And on the lg cable and 2 amp samsung charger, like 3 hours while on with screen off.

Vut yes it dose have more to do with the charger, if the amps arnt there to begin with the cable dosent matter.

But your chain is only as strong as the weakest link.

Same, I bought 4 of those kendle fire cables for .99 cents a peice.

But after that I started noticing this diffrence in cables. So now I will be a little more picky but should still be able to find thicker cables [not just thicker shell but the actual conductors] for near the same price.

Also FYI there are circuits within the S3 and Battery so that it will not pull over 1 amp while on charge. I have a 2 amp charger but the circuits will only use 1 amp. 3 to 4 hours is about right to fully charge a dead battery while phone is on.
