USB connection & mass storage issues

Hi,

This is very odd and very frustrating - help would be very much appreciated.

I want to use MyPhoneExplorer. So I have debug mode enabled. I'm using Windows 7 and Android Gingerbread.

Now when I connect my phone via USB it seems to work fine. It connects to MyPhoneExplorer and I can switch it in to mass storage mode. But after a short period of time the phone drops the connection. I loose the mass storage drives, MPE won't connect and the phone itself doesn't show the USB symbol, although it's still charging.

If I go to device manager, there are odd things going on. When I connect it the phone appears under USB controllers and a Samsung Android Phone category appears. A portable devices category also appears with two drives that corresepond to the phone flash memory and the SD card - but these keep refreshing, mounting and un-mounting one after another. While this is happening I can use the USB connection. However eventually one and then both of the portable devices shows an error and then I can no longer connect, although the portable devices category keeps on refreshing.

After a little while I get an error popup saying one of the USB devices on the system is not recognised. Then the portable devices and android phone disappear from Device Manager and the USB category is showing "unknown device".

I've checked that all the drivers are up to date. I have no idea what's going on, although this behaviour seemed to start when I installed AutoMount on my phone. That caused my PC to crash so I removed it but I've had problems ever since.

Any ideas at all as to a fix? It's driving me berserk!

Cheers,
Matt

Well, have you tried to restore your computer to the way it was prior to the AutoMount crash? I think you answered your question in the last sentence. I did so many things to my computer messing with the phones that I finally put a shortcut for System Restore on the desktop.
