usb connection problem

i have an android samsung galaxy ring (sph-m840 / 4. 1. 2. ) and im having problems connecting my phone to my computer via usb.
I do not have an sd card in my phone so i need to connect to my internal memory to save pictures and clear memory for more room.
i know my usb cord works and my computer will recognize it as a charger, no usb notification pops up when i plug it in.
my phone has no options (that i can tell) of a usb storage to change it to a mass storage.
i have already tried...
-turning my phone on usb debugging via settings>developer options>usb debugging
-downloading a usb connection program to my computer
-restarting my phone and plugging and unplugging it
please help...is this possible or am i doing all of this for nothing??

Make sure that you have a 4-wire (data + power) USB cable. Some of them have only 2 wires - to charge the device.
