Accessories USB connector kit problem

paul89895

Lurker
I have the connector kit and find it great for storing additional media on both USB sticks and SD cards.

However I am unable to write any files from the tab. I have tried different USB sticks and SD cards. It always fails to write with no specific message - just "failed to copy" (es file browser). Using My Files I can copy a file on the tab but when I go to the USB device there is not even a paste icon available.

My tab is running android 4.0.4 and both USB sticks and SD cards are formatted in FAT32.

I have searched the web and can find nothing that can assist me. Everything I read says you should be able to write without any problem.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am able to read from USB sticks and SD cards. None of these were formatted on the tab - doing that is certainly something I will try asap and post the result.

However the instructions for the connector kit do not mention anything about where the media should be formatted.

I am unable to find any way to format a USB or SD card on the tab.
The instructions for the connector kit just say such media should be formatted as FAT32, which is so.

I know how to do that in windows and the devices are obviously write able since I have written files.
But I do not know how to check properties of this device in android.
Do you know how to do this or what product I could use - ES file browser does not seem to have any such capability.

actually, ES File Explorer can do it - hold on the USB folder until it haptic vibrates, then scroll at the bottom to More - find Properties, and click that. Should tell you if it is writeable or not.

Thanks for that help.

The device shows as writable but when I try to create a folder or copy a file etc it says one of -

access denied
failed to complete operation
or something like that

I am very appreciative of the help you are giving me.

Does anyone else have any thoughts?

I found out from another posting that the version of android I have changed the write permissions for external media. They said that the built in 'my files' should do it but even that has not been adjusted for the new rules.
