what to do?

any suggestions??

i've rebooted my computer.. i've changed it from "charge only" to "hard disk"

??

help?

nevermind... you gotta have that HTC Sync s/w on the computer
:S

doesn't actually SAY that anywhere - i didn't see it anyway...

Have you got the latest HTC Sync? Used a different USB cable? Powered down the Hero and taken the battery out then booted back up? Just some ideas. Good luck.

I had the same issue, downloaded the latest HTC Sync software and installed. It allowed me to install the update, but the "Sync" never worked at all, didn't even detect the Hero, and was generally useless.

yeah.. that's what it was

i was trying to install it from my desktop - didn't have that HTC Sync s/w on it

the usb connection on my laptop is dodgy, it always gives that "d-dink" sound (usb unconnecting/connecting) so i wanted to do it on my desktop

stupid thing about it was... no where does it actually SAY you gotta have that htc sync software on your computer to do the update!

they just give that cryptic error msg

they give you a "few" troubleshooting suggestions - make sure you have 30% charge on your battery, make sure you have a good connxn w/ the usb cable..

how hard would it be to add "make sure you have the latest sync s/w installed - oh, and here's a link in case you don't"??

whatever

OK, I don't mean to come off wrong here and please, please don't take it that way.

but....

I am assuming you were trying to upgrade to the new link?? If so, perhaps folks who put that out figured you were smart enough to already know that. You want hand holding, then wait for the official release.

and I don't mean to come off wrong way either, please don't take it that way...

but phukc you d1ckweed
