Root USB Data Cable Sensitivity

To anyone having trouble getting the pc to recognize that the Samsung Exhibit II is connected (for rooting, USB debug, data transfer, anything):
Use only the Samsung data cable. A generic one probably won't work. I had the problem using a usb data cable from an old LG on my Samsung. It would charge the battery but that was all. Once I switched to the Samsung cable that came with my phone, everything went fine. (Of course, you still need to install the Exhibit drivers for anything beyond USB mass storage usage; works with Exhibit II).

The LG cable worked fine with LG phone so I know the cable wasn't bad.

BTW, USB access and rooting work fine on Mac with VMWare running Win XP.

Been using a cheap one I picked up on eBay w/o issues, data and charging are good. However, you are correct, not all cables are created equal, and some may present issues at times if not a perfect spec for the particular device in question.

Win 7 did not have the drivers, had to find them oin the net and manually install in order to see the phone as a drive. Can also see the SD card, but can't access it. easier to put in my card reader than to solve the USB/SD issue
