It has been awhile since i have tried to transfer any files (like music) from my PC to my phone via usb. I just plugged in my USB to PC any nothing pops up like it used to to allow data transfer. My computer doesn't recognize my phone either. I'm assuming it has something to do with now being on KitKat? I'm just trying to transfer some music. I tried Kies air which i've never used before but have difficulty finding the music i want to transfer on that.

My S3's been doing this (or not doing this) since before the last two updates. I've tried everything under the sun short of sacrificing small animals and I've had no luck. Is your computer not recognizing the phone or is it only a Windows Explorer issue (assuming your not on a Mac). I've used multiple laptops, desktops, Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.1,... nada. Each will display the phone as a connected device in the Control Panel, but it won't show up in Windows Explorer (which is where all the work is done). Kies isn't any help either (or it's various drivers). I wish you luck. My two year update is due in two months and I'm getting away from Samsung.

Try the free 'AirDroid' app, it's a nice way to transfer files to/from your phone and computer using WiFi, no USB cable involved. No computer driver issues, no MTP or PTP juggling, you just use your computer's web browser (and it makes no difference about the operating system platform/version, nor which browser you prefer.)

nytmare, when I plug my usb in to computer, it just charges. Doesn't recognize as anything else on either my phone or computer. I talked to tech support and enabled developer options/debugging etc still no help. Just realized how its been so long since I've transfered music from PC to phone so it may have been this way for awhile but it used to pop up right when I would attached the usb to allow it to connect as media.

My contract is up and I keep debating on what im going to do. Thought'd id get S5 but hear so many people say things like this about getting away from them. I've actually thought about the iphone 6 but i've always been an android guy. UGH just don't know what to do.

Mine does the same. Out of curiosity... check "devices" in your Control Panel and see if it shows up. Mine does, but it won't display in Windows Explorer. No one who's tried to help me can explain that.
I've been reading up on LG's G3 and I like it's stats. I've been following it here within it's forum and most people are liking it. I'd considered waiting for the Note 4, but that's still a Samsung product and I've grown tired of Samsung. Moving on...

Offhand it sounds like you might be using a charging-only USB cable as opposed to a typical data & charging cable. If you look into the plug end that goes into your computer you'll see four brass contacts. Inside a data/charging cable, of the four wires that correspond to those contacts two are for data and the other two are for power. But in a charging-only cable the two data wires are shorted so they're basically inert, so out of the four just the two power wires are functional.
It doesn't appear as if all the makers of USB cables are very good at labeling their products either -- you may indeed be using a data & power cable indicating another problem entirely or you might have a power-only cable. The problem is by casual inspection they all look pretty much the same, and checking the contacts on both plug ends for corresponding continuity with a multimeter isn't a viable solution in most cases. Trial and error on a computer that you know recognizes your phone is one option, just buying a clearly labeled cable is another. (If you do prefer the multimeter option, I recommend the very, very useful 'ElectoDroid' app. It's really handy for such things with lots of tables on parts, components, connectors, etc.)

Your problems may be cable related. I have a GIII with KitKat and a Windows 7 PC. I plug it in and explorer shows the Phone, with 2 SD Cards (the internal one + the one that I installed).
Wifi file transfer is what i use.
