Help USB Device not recognised

Galaxy S1 working fine till today connecting to Kies, updated Kies today now 'USB device not recognised' message.
My computers Win XP and Win 7 same problem with both
Tried 1) reistalling Kies 2) reinstalling USB Mobile drivers 3) new microusb-usb cable 4) connecting mobile in debugging mode with mobile as mass storage 5) No 4 with SD card mounted and unmounted.

Not tried factory reset (don't really want to unless I have to)

Please help somebody!

The factory data reset may be the way to go, but you can first try doing a thorough cache and data clearing on all apps/widgets involved, especially 3rd party programs (from Market, etc).

I'd even try uninstalling the 3rd part stuff, then reboot and see if the issue with USB is remedied.

Also, are you sure the drivers are the proper ones?
