Help USB Disk Drive Mode on 2010 Honda Civic

I have replaced my HTC WinMobile phone with Incredible 2. Previously used the WinMobile phone connected to my 2010 Honda Civic's USB port no problem and car's "USB" mode is then exposed/displayed on car's audio display (mode not available when no USB drive connected), and would find all songs on phone's SD card no matter what folders they are in. Audio controls would control folder and song selections, and display them on the radio's LCD.

With INC2 connected, the car's audio display does not expose/display the USB mode. I have tried setting the INC2 up to ask me how to connect when plugged in (which the INC2 does when I connect to the car's USB port), and also hard set to disk drive mode (i.e., don't ask).

When I connect the INC2 to a laptop, the SD card is correctly exposed to laptop no problem and can browse all files.

By the way, on a side note, it could be that the Honda's audio system will not expose the USB mode to the user if it finds no songs on the connected SD drive (i.e., just because the USB mode is not being displayed to me on the car's audio display, doesn't mean that it is not connecting properly; just may mean that it can't find/see any audio files, so no reason for the car's audio display to expose the USB mode to me).

I have not found any posts specific to my problem, but have read some posts whereby maybe FAT32 may have something to do with this?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Bill,
I just bought a 2011 Honda Accord EX, and it also has a USB port on its sound system. I initially had problems getting the car's sound system to play music files on my Incredible 2 SD card, but after playing around with it for awhile, I got it to work. This may not be the same situation as what you have with your Civic, but I figured I would post what I found in case it may help you or at least others with an Accord.
Below is the procedure I use to play songs on the Dinc2 SD card:

- Turn the car key ignition switch ON (I was just turing it to the accessory ON position for my testing).
- Press AUX on car sound system to select the auxiliary input source.
- Turn on phone and unlock to get to home screen.
- Plug USB cable into car's jack, and then into phone - "USB Load" appears on car's display.
- Now the phone automatically pops open its "Connect to PC" menu. Choose the "Disk Drive, Mount as Disk Drive" option from the phone's menu. Note that if you don't make a selection on the phone's menu within about 10 seconds, that it automatically goes to the default selection of "Charge Only", and the menu disappears. This mode will charge your phone from the car's battery, but it won't allow you to access the SD card's files. When this happened to me, I noticed that a USB symbol was showing on the phone's status bar on the top of the main screen. So I pulled down the status bar, and found in the pull down menu a button that said "Charge Only, Select to Change USB Selection Type". Pressing this button causes the "Connect to PC" menu to reappear, and you then can select "Mount as Disk Drive", then press the "Done" button.
- Now here's when the unexpected happened. After selecting "Mount as Disk Drive", an "Unsupported" message started to flash on the car's display. After trying many things to work around this, the only thing I found that worked was to turn off the power button on the car's sound system, and then turn it back on. Then "USB Load" appeared briefly on the cars display, and then a song from the phone's SD card started to play! :) The song title and artist also displayed on the car's display.

Not only was it working, but the sound quality was excellent! I could then use the large selector knob or the Skip button on the sound system to choose songs off the SD card. It appears that it would be best to sub-group songs into appropriate category folders (like by artist, album or genre) on the SD card in order to be better able to browse through files. The car has a Folder button that will let you select these folders, rather than trying to sift through hundreds of songs one at a time.

I hope this helps ..

have a kia soul, and i had inc1 and inc2 and d2g and only could get the d2g to work with the usb port, i now just stream via bluetooth if i want to use my phone for music which is rare, and i only use google music for that.

Eman323 (or anyone else),

I also just bought a 2011 Honda Accord EX. I have been trying to get the USB to work with my HTC Incredible (1). I was getting the same "unsupported" message, and when I tried to get it to work following the directions above, it said "No Song". I even tried it on a card with a song on the root of the SD card and some in other folders.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am very disappointed in either Honda or my phone for not playing well together...
