USB function and WIFI question before I buy.

I think I've decided to go with a Acer Iconia but have a few questions before I buy I want to make sure I'm understanding right and that it will do what my most important use of it will be. I receive our data maps for the farm with from an agronomist by email quite often while we are in the field especially if we had to make a change to rates or seed and need to put them currently on a CompactFlash card and in the future a USB thumb drive. Would I be able to connect to the internet through my Droid2 running Barnacle Wifi hotspot download the attachment from the email and then place it on a compact flash card by plugging my Card reader into the USB port or in the future a USB Thumb Drive. Are there any limitations on formatting it will accept NTFS, Fat32, Fat and will it accept file types it doesn't know these will be a file type specific to our use.

Yes you will be able to do that but you will be limited to FAT32 formatted drives, not that much of a problems as these devices usually do use FAT32.

As petedee said, you will be able to do what you need. However, if you root your device, you will be able to use NTFS formatted drives. Android only recognises FAT32 as standard though.

Thanks for the replies if the new monitors come out with NTFS at least there is an option available and I'm not new to rooting so that wouldn't be to big of deal. Looks like I know what I'm getting for fathers day.

Does Barnacle give you a hotspot like a home router would or does it appear as an ad-hoc network? If it's an ad-hoc, the system kernel can't connect to it, you'd have to root and replace kernel (I think there's one available) which MAY also give you the ability to read NTFS.

Yeah Barnacle with root gives you a hotspot that appears just like any home or public router. I used PDA Net for awhile and just tethered but this seems a lot simpler and faster connection.

Just tried barnacle with my droid (rooted running a plain gingerbread rom), it runs as an ad-hoc network, the iconia (stock still) does not see it.
