Help USB HID

Droid9999

Lurker
I have a device that connect to a windows desktop by usb using HID and works fine. I now want to write software for an Android tablet that will talk to the device. Is this possible without changing the firmware on the device. It's custom hardware, not a storarage deivce or mouse or keyboard.

The android tablet needs to be the host and the device is the device.

Using UsbManager, UsbAccessory, I can see other devices but not my device. Any help or an example where an android device is the host and connects to a device would be appreciated. All the examples I've found have not been HID, and the device acted as the host.

Not without touching the firmware. You'd have to build a custom kernel that has support for your HID device, and you would have to have source code for the driver or kernel module that the device requires. Tablets are usually just intended to be using USB storage, keyboards, mice and cellular modems via USB host.

My company gave me this project, and the device was created by my company so I have access to the firmware. When you say build a custom kernel, are you talking for the tablet? If so I believe that it would be easier to change the firmware. Do you have a suggestion of how to make the device friendly to both windows and android, or should there be two flavors?

Thanks for your help.
