Help USB Mass Storage help (issues connecting with devices? )

i got my one as i was leaving for work. i'm here at work now, with my evo and One connected to my pc. i'm trying to move all my songs, videos, and photos over to my one.

however...i cannot find how to enable mass storage on the One. i dont see it anywhere. any help would be appreciated!!
 
Android 4.0 and above does not support mass storage it supports MTP transfer. I was just messing around with the wife's S3 *unrooting it to return it, buggy as heck, she's only had it a week. I suspect it's a faulty model.) and to my dismay I found this out. it has upsides, but the downsides are pretty big as well, one such example being that it is going to be virtually impossible to recover accidentally deleted data on the internal memory.
 
mtp? so how do i move my content from my evo lte to the One? i cant get my pc to recognize the One. well...it recognizes it, but i cant get into it.

With the Wife's Samsung I had to download the software to get my PC to recognize it even. It showed up as an icon with the words "portable media player" under it in "my computer" kinda like this.

Getting files to it at this point is as simple as opening the device in my computer and copying the files over to the folder in the device.

oh okay. Well I'm at work and don't have permissions to download anything. And it's a really old windows version. That's probably why. Thanks a lot guys

got home and connected my One to my laptop. It downloaded the drivers and all was well. This is better than mass storage because I was able to access my media files while it was connected. You couldnt do that during mass storage
 
Do I have to download HTC Sync for my laptop to connect to my phone? Didn't have a problem with the Evo.
 
You don't have to use it, but....

I installed it to get the latest USB drivers.

It installs two items: HTC Sync Manager & HTC Driver Installer.

Once its installed & rebooted you can use it. But I unistalled HTC Sync Manager & left HTC Driver Installer then plugged my phone.

You can navigate, drag & drop just like a normal file system.

This uses the MTP file system. (Media Transfer Protocol)

Ugghh...since all I have is a work laptop I am hit with permission requests which means a call to IT for approval.

Yup... I did NOT install Sync Manager (that sometimes interferes with some rooting activities), and just plugged my One into my laptop (Win 7 SP1). It found the required drivers with no problem, but I don't have the same restrictions you do. I'm replying only because you don't necessarily have to install HTC Sync Manager to get the required drivers. Good luck!

It won't let me, I have to either have HTC sync or the drivers. Gonna try to install the drivers alone and see if it will fly under the permissions radar, I really don't want the sync package.

Hmmmm....I'll try. When I use my laptop instead of it being a removable device it has the HTC sync icon. I will have to try it on another computer.

Update: I plugged in to another computer and it installed the drivers automatically and let me go in w/out the sync manager or anything. Must be my work laptop.
 
i use wifi explorer pro which is the same type of app as airdroid.

the issue you may see if using these types of apps over a company wifi network is that some ports may be blocked preventing you from accessing the phone from a computer.

may no be an issue in your company, but just a friendly heads up...
 
I found that Airdroid wouldn't let me upload music by the folder to my device, so I'm sticking with the USB plug-in at work. It's old-tech, but it works quickly and efficiently.

The only reason I wanted to use the HTC Sync was to see if it pulled off Zoes in their Zoe form, and not broken up into frames like it does with the typical USB file manager.
 
Yes, correct.

What we're talking about is when a PC fails to do that.

Think of it like a flat tire. Yours may not be, but that doesn't keep others from getting a flat, or explain what to do when you get one.

So I ended up having to get the company IT guy to install the sync manager and then un-install it to get the drivers my laptop needed, problem solved. Originally all the laptop would do is recognize it as a camera and not allow any file transfers.

Hi Sam, Glad to know you got it working how you like, but wanted to let you know that you CAN drag/drop folders using Airdroid. That was the big deal for me, too, cuz Wifi Explorer Pro does NOT do that, which was my biggest complaint with it. But Airdroid DOES allow that, and now I can move an entire audiobook via WiFi. Check about 4 o'clock on the Airdroid browser window:

Hey I've had my HTC One for about a month now and it is an amazing phone in all aspects for myself. The problem I have is that it will not connect to the PS3 like the old OS. How do I get around this so I can put pictures and videos on my PS3?
