Root USB not working. Root? CWM?

I had to send off my phone for repairs to Samsung. In the mean time I'm using a friend's phone that I bought off him. The usb port on it is not working. What are my options as to put CWM on this thing. I've been using stock for a day or so and this thing is driving me up the wall! I wanna try the new MIUI gb port!

On a side note anyone got any ideas as to what I can try for this USB? Not sure how it got this way... probably was just dropped one too many times! This battery swapping is not doing me any favors either!
 
There was a guy in here about a month or 2 ago that had the same problem and ended up having to replacing it. If I recall correctly, he didn't spend more that 10 bux on it and installed it his self.

I'm pretty sure that Odin is the only way to install CWM.
 
Interesting. Did he buy a replacement port and solder it? I'm bad with a solder but once my love, urm, I mean phone comes back I might just try that.

Yeah, he bought a replacement. As for installing, he didn't go in to detail what all he had to do.
