Help USB On the Go Mouse Method Unlock Phone with Broken Screen

Hi Friends,
A friend of mine has a Nexus 4 and using method OTG as USB debugging is not enabled or he is not sure if it is on. He is trying to unlock the phone, I guess to recover some files, I forgot to ask him that. He said that the second method doesn’t work with his nexus 4. Any other suggestion? Thanks in advance!
