Help USB/PC not recognizing phone

welch77

Lurker
I rooted my phone about a month ago, and ever since then when I connect the usb cable to the PC it will charge but not show up on the PC. I have uninstalled and reinstalled USB driver several times. Getting very frustrated!
My firmware is 2.3.5 and
broadband version is t959vuvki1
kernel 2.6.35.7-t959vuvki1-cl579207
build number gingerbread.vuvki1.

I'm trying to figure out how to (at the very least) revert back to stock rom so that hopefully I can have USB access to the PC again. I have read all the previous posts regarding this issue and I've done the same things suggested with no resolve.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

What did you root with? Some of the software has what security calls trojans. Is it possible that your security shut down/blocked the connection somehow thinking it was on the phone?
What happens if you try another computer?
I've had crap like this with older HP printers and USB ports.

Can you see what's on the card if you use a reader?

I can plug into a Linux box and see the drives. I am also using XP and can see the drives.
I just updated to Gingerbread. PITA with a few files.

I think I rooted with ODIN, does that make sense? I haven't been able to try another computer yet. I've disabled all my antivirus and windows firewall, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several times and still nothing. I don't have the reader right now for my card, I will have that on Thanksgiving (moving). how did you update if the usb cable wouldn't recognize the phone? I've heard that if you put files on the sd card that you can do it, I just have no idea how to do it.

I used Superoneclick. Far easier. The computer always saw the phone card.
When I first rooted, I found out you have to reboot everything after the last step or your computer won't see the phone.

I almost missed how to update - the instructions were ambiguous.

You should really get that reader and check the card. I've had to reformat cards since they wouldn't work after an update or upgrade. I had to reformat the card after Gingerbread. Ringtones and photos went haywire.

You can only access the phone (not the card) by USB unless you are using the main Kies, not mini Kies. USB usually only transfers to storage, meaning you can drag and drop from the computer. Once you get the phone rooted /connected you should have better options. Even main Kies only does file TF from phone. It's as bad as Nokia's Ovi.

If all else fails - I'd try googling Odin and see about restoring phone and starting over from square one.
