USB port broken?

Hello, I have the S3 and it has stopped charging. I will put the charger in and nothing will happen. I have taken apart the phone and under the USB port there was white crusty stuff, which I was guessing was oxidation, so I cleaned it all up, I wiped it away gently with a toothbrush and pretty much cleaned everything. It still wouldn't charge, but I also read that it could be the thin piece of metal inside the USB port that might need to be moved so I bent it a bit more downward and the phone charged for a bit and then failed. Everything I try now it wont charge.

Do you think the USB port is done and too damaged to work and I should replace it? Would replacing it be hard work / complicating?

I am currently using an external charger to charge my battery, everything else on my phone works fine.

Thanks.

helena_may,

I don't own an S3, but it might be that there's simply a bent pin or piece inside the USB connector on your device.

If you have a magnifying glass and could view and compare your S3 connector with another device, you might be able to see what is amiss (and be able to carefully bend it back (using a toothpick, etc.)).

Best of luck!
