USB Storage / SD Card question

Hi guys!

Just noticed that my USB Storage of my Galaxy W is close to Full.

Did a bit of research and apparently, "USB Storage" is just some sorta partition of the internal memory, right? Supposedly each and every update gets dumped here even if the app is saved in the SD card.

So would it work if I just moved everything from this folder to my SD card?

I did connect my gadget to a PC via USB cable, and I got access to both folders. Moving everything is easy, but I'm wary that this might cause some apps to malfunction or something.

Thanks!

Look at the settings of your apps.
Apps that need big storage room for their files often have the option to choose the place for their default folders.
So you'd choose the SD card in the app's settings, create its new folder (if the app doesn't it) on the SD card and then move its files.

Yeah, well, I did check some of my apps and they don't have the option of saving files on SD card. I also read that most of the stuff that's saved in the USB storage are update files.

Well, you'd install 'DiskUsage', free in Play Store, for to see on an graphic overview the storage usage of your apps, zoom in will show the details.

So you'd see what apps are be worth to have a closer look on its settings.

Okay, just explored the folders and found some cache files. Is it okay to delete these or will it harm the system?

I'd delete cache files only from uninstalled apps ... but others might chime in about that question :)

I cannot say for sure but I think deleting cache directories is OK. The app should just recreate it when it needs it. But apps that are currently running probably will have a write lock which won't allow you to delete it.

For example I found a ".thumbnails" directory under my "DCIM" where camera stuff goes. It was really huge, like 2Gb. I just deleted the whole thing. The system recreated it again but it's pretty small now.

Just use the Settings --> Applications and pick the "Clear Cache" button if you're concerned. Let Android do it.
