Root [USB Tether] Kyocera Hydro Vibe

I love my Hydro Vibe. However, When i need to tether during a ISP black out or on the go with my laptop. I dun believe in getting cheated to pay for HotSpot to be usable, where Data limits maybe the same. I use Virgin Mobile, my last phone was on there list for $15 a month for an extra 1GB of High Speed Data and enabled WiFi HotSpot. I was OK paying this for the extra 1GB of high speed. But this phone is not on the list, and the HotSpot features available for it are different and not worth it I think. But I like having the option for emergencies.

I have yet to find a working WiFi Tether for the phone, but I did come across a working USB Tether option which is good enough for me, and kinda like better anyways. Only other thing I ever connect to is my laptop. So I don't need the WiFi tether.

You need two programs.

1. ClockworkMod Tether (no root) from the Play Store (direct link to apk)

This app is a trial, but paid version is $4.99.

2. Tether software on your PC.
Mac: http://download.clockworkmod.com/tether/tether-mac.zip
Linux: http://download.clockworkmod.com/tether/tether-linux.tgz
Windows: http://download.clockworkmod.com/tether/TetherWindowsSetup.msi

*Windows 8 (8.1) You may need to Disable driver digital signature enforcement, for the Tether software to install. Annoying yes, but once disabled should install without a problem.

Once all set up, just start it on your phone, then start the tether software on your PC. it should auto connect and get you online. I was able to navigate to websites just fine. Pretty nice to have with my LTE Phone, and it being cross platform.

Try the trial first before you decide to buy. So you know it works for you!

I tried this out with my phone (no root) and got the same issue that I have been experiencing with other tether applications, (no windows ADB drivers available for this phone).

works just fine for me. there a usable driver. I think the application i used to root it installed a usable driver. So I dun know which driver it is. I think it was like a Samsung driver or something. but it works, i wouldn't of put it in this section if it didn't for me.

What did you use for root? I tried root genius but failed on 4.3 jellybean. Been searching hi and low to no avail.

Alright, so i knocked back a few beers and got the courage to root my phone. I used that root guide and noticed that the "Root Genius" did install some driver during its process. Whatever it installed, it worked, I now have a rooted phone with tether capabilities.
THANKS OP!
