use Android to browse usb-connected device?

I have a Samsung Captivate; and wish to use it to browse and upload files which are on another USB-available device: a Garmin 500 personal GPS device.

basically, when I finish a bike ride, I want to connect my garmin to my samsung and send the ride file to a website.

Yes, I realize this means I need a mini-to-micro USB cable or some variant thereof, but I want to know if this is even possible, software wise?

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to. I know there is an Android garmin phone so I would guess it is possible.

No you cant do that. Android doesnt have host support, therefore you cannot just connect a device TO the phone. You can certainly use wifi tether to give your Garmin wifi access, but you cannot connect it to the phone.
