I installed Kingroot to get tether to work.

a few months later, my phone wanted to do security updates from LG but failed. :(
I get the dead Android pic.

the Software version is LS665zv4.
no matter what I try, even after hard reset, it wont update and I always get this pic.

Any ideas?
thx

You can't take / install an OTA while you're rooted *.

That's the risk and consequence you take when you root.

It's likely that the security OTA you received partially updated your device...your best bet would be to try to re-flash your device to stock--I'm afraid I don't know how to do that for your particular device, though--I don't own or have experience wit the LG Tribute 2.

* there are exceptions to this, but likely do not apply in your case.

oh.. so even after a hard reset, my phone is still rooted?!
uggg :(

Your phone has several partitions on its internal storage. Some are protected system partitions dedicated to the Android operating system, one is set aside as a general user data partition. That's the one where all your personal files, apps you've installed, and the settings/configuration files for those apps reside. A Factory Reset wipes that user data partition and that's all it does, the system partitions are left as is. So a Reset won't affect the operating system, whether it was rooted or not rooted it remains the same before and afterwards. If you want to unroot your phone, as @scary alien referred to, you need to reflash your phone with its original, factory ROM. That replaces the 'rooted' Android operating system with clean, stock one.

uggg..thx.

My phone works fine.
is it worth it to try to reflash to stock just to get the latest software (LS665Zv7)?

LS665ZV6 11/08/2016 Android Security Patches

Anyone have info on LS665ZV7?

1. You won't be able to Root again after installing ZV7.. FYI.
2. It was probably just the HummingBad security patch, not a whole new OS
