Help Used S5 - questions

Russ Burt

Lurker
I've bought a used S5 in average condition so I'd expect a few issues.

Firstly the flap for the charging port is missing so I've ordered a new one which should stop the waterproof warning message from popping up regularly. I also seem to get a warning message about the rear cover now and then too, it does seem to fit well with no gaps or loose connections but would the message indicate that's not the case?

Also should there be some sort of plug for the earphone socket to ensure it's fully (or as much as the S5 can be) waterproof?

Finally next to the charging port is another socket of some kind, what's that for?

TIA

The warning messages are more friendly (or annoying, depending on your take) reminders to make sure the charge flap is closed and battery cover is secure than an actual warning to indicate those items are not secure. Assuming the phone hasn't been damaged in some way, there is no need to plug the headphone jack as it is coated for water resistance.

Finally the phone has usb 3.0 which is used for high speed data transfer since you can take 4k video. So you'll need to use a usb 3.0 cable to take advantage of that when connecting to your pc.

Replacing the port cover won't make the warning go away. It comes up regardless of whether the cover is open or closed, there is no switch or sensor for it.
The only way to get rid of those pop-ups is by rooting and using Xposed.

I have not had a Cover Open message on my phone in so many months, I can't remember when it was.

Somehow, I turned that irritating thing off.

Hi,

-The headphone jack itself is encased in waterproof material which seals it. That had worried me so I talked to a sales rep. (I don't know if there's anyway to tell if the seal has been damaged.)

-I'm not positive, but I think that the socket next to the charging port you are referring to is the area that the charging port cover snaps into. It all fits into the recessed area.
