Help used wrong charger, now Huawei Premia will not power up

linkd

Lurker
Greetings :)! Newby new to forums here.

So I tried to charge my Huawei Premia 4g (MetroPCS) phone using a Rocketfish Mobile Phone Charger (Model# RF-MIC90) with the following specs:
Input: AC 100-240V 50/60Hz 0.2A
Output: 5V_ _ _0.6A

After plugging the Rocketfish charger into the wall outlet and then plugging the other end of the charger into my Premia it appeared as though the phone began charging (battery charging icon appeared) but the phone screen immediately became frozen. I tried to power down but nothing... the phone appeared to be totally frozen. I unplugged the charger from the phone and the screen blacked out. It appeared as if the phone lost all power (without the normal power-off process). It would not turn on normally so I removed the battery for a few minutes, re-inserted the battery, attempted to power up... it will not power up. No lights or any indication of power.

*** I tried to hard-reset the phone by depressing both volume buttons and the power button all at the same time... still nothing... no power... no reaction from phone at all.***

I fear I may have zapped my phone into a coma/death by using the wrong charger.

The phone battery was less than 50% charged when I plugged the Rocketfish charger into the phone (probably more like 25% charged).

The Huawei charger that came with the phone from Metro PCS has the same specs as the Rocketfish Charger except that the Huawei charger's Output is: 5V_ _ _1.0A (the Rocketfish charger's Output is: 5V_ _ _0.6A).

On the phone I do see a red light flash quickly on and off, one time, only when the phone is being plugged into a usb port on my Toshiba laptop without the phone battery being inserted. This quick one-time red light flash does not occur when the phone battery is installed and then the phone is plugged into the usb port on the laptop. This situation is the only occurrence where any light flashes on the phone. Otherwise, no other light (of any color) flashes on the phone at all.

Anyone have any experience/suggestions as to what may have happened? Or any other suggestions as to how to reboot this phone somehow? Thanks! :)

Plug in the original charger and let it sit overnight. It sounds as if the battery got drained to effectively 0%. (Which can happen if the phone is running with an underpowered charger connected.)

Thx Rukbat.
Last night I connected my Premia to the original charger that it came with from Metro PCS in hopes of it charging up throughout the night (10 hours plugged in). There was no indication (no lights or big battery charging icon) that it was in fact charging. The phone would not power up this morning... no lights... no indication of any power. I plan to take the phone to a Metro PCS store on Tues in hopes of charging the battery and technical support (fingers crossed).

there is no such thing as the wrong charger anymore a usb charger will work even if it actually shows different specs. it could be defective or your battery is the problem.
seriously take the battery out leave cover off and plug phone into your laptop/destop. if your computer has at least usb 2.0 it should power up your phone with no problem. if you have scripts or anything it will reboot after it says android is updating, SO MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN BEFORE IT LEAVES THE HUAWEI BOOT SCREEN.

YOUR PHONE WILL NOW CHARGE A COMPLETELY DRAINED BATTERY.
get rid of your battery appps stop listening to a app that says it will calibrate your battery. i am sure that is the reason why you posted here with a dead phone. battery apps are just a great waste of money on the market.

use es task manager and make a kill only list and use the widget
also use es task manager to prevent 20-30 apps from being auto started at boot

Thx killericarus.
Interesting event occurred this morning when I plugged the original Huawei charger that came with the phone from Metro PCS into the wall outlet and the other end into my Premia (btw, the battery was inserted into the phone) ... a red light on the phone started pulsing bright red then regular red then bright red then regular red... for at least 10 times (the red light did not pulse on/off during these 10 or so cycles... simply bright red then regular red). Then, after those 10 or so cycles the phone started pulsing reg red light then off, then reg red light, then off... this too occurred for about ten cycles... and then the phone appeared to go dead again. No reaction from the phone at all whatsoever no matter if battery was in or out except when the phone was connected to the laptop usb *without* the battery inserted. When the phone was connected to the laptop usb a one time quick red light would flash on the phone. No other lights or any kind of reaction from phone at all after that.

So, I will try what has been suggested and take the battery out leave cover off and plug phone into laptop. Hopefully this will help.

BTW, I never installed any kind of battery/calibrating apps on this phone but i will look into es task manager if this phone is ever rejuvenated. Thx again. I will update with future turn of events.

So I fully charged the battery using a friends functional Premia but my Premia would still not power up with the fully charged battery. I took my Premia to the Metro PCS store I bought it from where they checked it out and concluded that the phone was the problem so they ordered a new (refurbished?) Premia since I was within the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. I was charged $15 plus 90 cents tax. The new (refurbished?) Premia came in 3 days later for me to pick up. They told me I had 7 days to pick up the phone after it arrived at the store.

I still don't know what/why my Premia wouldn't start up but at least I have a new (refurbished?) Premia that currently appears to function just fine. :)

When my premia was replaced last month it was new. I showed them that in huaweis warranty it clearly states it would be replaced with a new functioning handset. Though I dumped it for the f3 when I shattered the screen 2 weeks later.

I too have had this same problem as I am now on my fourth premia. I know that ppl say that all chargers will work the same and blah blah, but i think this phone is an exception lol! i dont have any problems so long as i use a charger that is .7 amps or less, at least that is my findings so far. so think twice before u use your friends charger. maybe the pinouts are different idk but i am about sick of setting up my phone over and over oh and just found out that it's been discontinued on metropcs FYI.

Maybe a design problem with this particular phone. Because on the whole any modern phone should be able to use any USB charger, and the pin outs and wiring are standardised. This actually comes from an EU directive for device makers to standardise on chargers. Basically to try and stop disused incompatible chargers ending up in landfill.

UNIVERSAL Serial Bus. Means just that. FYI : the two outside pins are always the power. The inside are the data. ALWAYS. Hence the name Universal.

Just to drop a small bit of info here. yes power supplies were to be standardised, but only within prpduct lines, not universally. An underpowered ps. can be used but will allow the battery to continue to.discharge at a slower rate.... this could kill your battery over time, but using the wrpng supply is bad idea.from the getgo. Be sure to cjeck for pin positive or negative, That is NOT standardised although you would think it shuold be. As forr nattery apps, ,check out .the script by zepplinrox over at xda developers. Run it and set to auto, it will sjow you tje current draw versus the suppliex mah. Hope this is a bit helpful,, I burned out a clone with the wrong ps. The battery got fat and I couldnt close the back, that was from overvolting tje battery. Lastly under voltage can kill microcircuits easily as overvolting.
Later.

So, my 2nd Premia, after 6 months of working just fine, froze yesterday morning and wouldn't start up at all yesterday. The battery charge level at the time was very low. I let it sit overnight without the battery in it. This morning, after charging the battery with a friend's Premia, I put the battery in and the phone immediately started blinking red in intervals of 3. Does anyone know what that means?

I then pressed the power button to see if it would power up and the red blinking went from intervals of 3 to a steady flashing red light for about ten seconds and then no more blinking/lights of any kind whatsoever... the phone appears totally unresponsive. Anyone have any idea what the red blinking light may mean (intervals of 3 or solid flashing)?
