Help User Dictionary Crash, Now No Keyboard Loading

No task killer

I attempted to delete a large amount of words from my user dictionary and it crashed when I hit delete. Now when use an application that requires text input (sms, browser search, email, etc) the keyboard doesn't come up.

It's not a touch screen issue, as everything else works fine. I even calibrated the keyboard and that worked.

I can't bring up the user dictionary anymore to try and edit it.

Please help.

Try clear data from dictionary via manage applications. You'll lose all entries but mat fix it

I know this thread is a bit old, but I had a similar problem.

What caused the problem

Went to the user dictionary and deleted heaps of entries. It stopped responding (probably just slow) and had to go in again multiple times to finish the job, which by this time, I decided I'd just delete everything and start from scratch.

Symptoms

Afterwards - whenever I typed more than 1 character (which triggers predictive text), the keyboard would freeze and refuse to go away. I could still scroll and do normal functions, but the bottom half of the screen (with the keyboard) would stay there.

In the user dictionary, there were several blank entries, and when I added a new one, it would be added multiple times, but when I deleted just one of them, it would delete all of them (probably just a rendering issue).

Solution that worked for me

1. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > (Tab) Running > Touch Input

2. Push "Force Stop". Not sure if this is absolutely necessary, but with the keyboard in the way, it was the only option for me

3. Push "Clear Data" (accept the warning)

NOTE: this deletes ALL your keyboard settings and user dictionary so you'll have to reconfigure it under Settings > Language & Keyboard > Touch Input

Thank you so much awesome internet people. I pretty much registered onto this site, just to say thank you - you're lifesavers! I had the exact same problem as poster #1. Hope HTC sorts out the glitch...
