I've got Nexus 5 with KitKat. I'd like to set different ringtones for different people when I get a text message. I know how to do this with phone calls, but the the default SMS app (Hangouts) doesn't seem to support this. Is there some sort of work-around or app that well let me do this? If not, is there a different SMS app that supports this?

LightFlow in the Play Store. I am pretty sure the free version will work with Hangouts. It is full version and not a timed trial. Just doesn't work with as many apps as the paid version of LightFlow.
Once you install, you just add contacts and assign them LED colors, tones, how often they repeat, etc
