using 3.5mm headphone jack & bluetooth

hi all,

I am thinking about getting a note 4. I would like to be able to use the 3.5mm jack to play audio, but would also like it if the handset can connect to a bluetooth speaker & play the same audio.

is this possible?

thanks

Yes this is absolutely possible. In fact, all Android Phones that have both a 3.5mm headset jack and bluetooth will work this way. Unless for some reason you want to connect your wired headphones and bluetooth speaker simultaneously... don't think that will work.

I think that's what the OP wants to do. There as a similar thread recently where someone asked about this, and there may be an app which lets you do it, but I don't recall all the details.

Perhaps a search is in order...

Ah! Like for going running with someone and both listening to the same music at the same time:

There are a few recommendations but this seems like it would work:
Theoretically, you could also connect 2 wired headsets or 2 bluetooth headsets with this method. This is more of a worst-case scenario hack. It seems devices with Bluetooth 4.0+ are already able to support multiple profiles:

But one wired and one bluetooth seems a bit different. Let's see if we can get a definitive answer from a Phandroid blogger.

there are 2 reasons why i would want to do this:

1) use my phone as a radio (using phones in built FM radio - hence need for headphones plug in) & transmit the sound to a bluetooth speaker

2) i could create a 2 zone music system, with 1 wired in stero (through 3.5mm) jack & another zone connected wirelessly via bluetooth

thanks for input & any other suggestions

I want to do this too. In my case I want to play the sound of an Audible book over my car speaker system using the 3.5mm headphone jack but if a phone call comes in, I want the phone to work with the Bluetooth link by which it is connected to the vehicle.
Another example is that I want to play the Audible audiobook through the fixed speakers in my house, but I also have a Bose Soundlink speaker which is bluetooth enabled and portable. That way I can move around and "carry" the sound with me. I want both to work simultaneously. However, currently I have to unplug the speakers from the headphone Jack to make the bluetooth work. It is one OR the other, not both. This is a ridiculous limitation. Hopefully there is a way to overcome this problem.

I found an app called "SoundAbout" that will let you route media audio, ring tone audio, & notification audio to different sources simultaneously.
You could have music playing routed through a bluetooth speaker, have your phone ring though the built-in speaker, & notification sounds through your headphones. Just an example of ourselves.
However, it won't alow you to use multiple bluetooth devices at once, or (what I would like to be able of do) have audio from specific apps routed to different locations.
