Using an External Modem on an Android Phone

Hello,

I have been getting the following error message on my Droid X2 for about a week now:

Modem Did Not Power Up (0-3)
Starting RSD Protocol Support

A factory reset and an RSD had no discernible effect. Skipping the Boot Protection and cold booting into Linux works just fine. And the phone is fully functional otherwise. None of my data has damaged, I can still connect to wireless networks, literally nothing seems out of the ordinary outside of the modem.

My warranty has expired, and I'm still six months away from a Verizon upgrade. My questions is, would it be at all possible to attach an external 3G modem to restore it's data functionailty?

I do not think it is possible, you could tether but I don't believe you can use your phone as a modem.

I think it's theoretically possible but would probably require rewriting the kernel and radios.

Don't know for sure I'm just making an educated guess.
