Help using an MP3 as ringtone

Nailcake

Lurker
I have been trying to use an MP3 for ringtone but so far, I have failed again and again.

My weird stupid phone doesnt find the mp3 in 'music'(and I have tried moving it to different folders but to no avail), selecting the menu while playing the song or pressing it doesnt give me any option to use it as ringtone. I tried installing and using 4 different apps like ringdroid but none of them work.

Would be easy if I could do it via pc, but whenever I connect the phone, it 'isnt there' (eventhough it charges up and I am able to upload books to my Kindle via that same cable)

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks, unfortunatly, unlike my Kindle which is fully accessible via USB, the phone isnt, I can only access the SDcard and after some fooling around with it, I see that I cannot change anything through it.

Hi Nailcake,
Make sure that there's a folder on your SD-card called Media (if it's not there, create it). Within that folder create a folder called "ringtones" (no capital letter!) and move or copy your mp3 into that folder. (Mind: you can also create comparable folders for "alarms" and "notifications"). After that, open the ringtone list and your music should be there.

Sorry, Nailcake, I realize I made a stupid mistake. Within the "Media" folder at first create a new folder "Audio" (mind the capital). Th

That's really strange. One more question: what list of ringtones do you use on the phone? For example: I have the stock Android list and my Zedgetone list (which I've downloaded). Your mp3 should be in the Android list now. It works that way with me. I'm afraid that I can't help you any further. Anyone else maybe??

On the sd card make a folder called Sounds, inside that folder create two more folders Ringtones & Notifications......

I only have the list with the standard ringtones. Never had any others available to me.

I also have only one picture in my gallery. I took several photo's with the camera, but only 2 ever appeared in the gallery(deleted these later), I placed some other pictures in the same folder where I put that first pic but only the first one appears.
That pic is also the only custom picture I can use for wallpaper, I just dont have any others(aside from standard wallpapers) as option.

Its a stupid phone, wish I had never bought it. It behaves very erratic. Sometimes works perfect, then goes slow or black screen on some options, for no apparent reasoning. I ask people for advice but I am growing tired of having to tell people that I have already rebooted it for the 6th time today or that I already cleaned it up five minutes ago.

Its one of the first things I tried(I used to be an avid MS-Dos user), seemed logical... to me, but the phone disagrees.

Hi Nailcake,
Can it be that your SD-card is damaged? Have you tried another SD-card, so you can see if the problem still exists then?

Ive got to get another card first. But yes, I have thought about the possibility that the card is damaged. But even then, I fear there is more at hand.
Just installed Zedge and downloaded a ringtone. I get a seperate list for it, I tried adding my mp3 to that folder but the phone ignores my mp3 while the ones downloaded through Zedge show up and work.

Nailcake, your own mp3 won't show up in the Zedge list, it should show up in "My files" as said before. So trying out another SD-card may be the first thing to try out now. Isn't it possible to use someone else's card just for trying it out? Or backup everything that's on your card, then format the card (inside the phone) and try again.

Edit; back on my desktop now, at least here I can read everything.
I can see it in 'My files', that was never the problem. I can play the mp3 there aswell, incase you were wondering. But it doesnt show up in ANY ringtone lists or options, despite it being in 4 (relevant) folders atm.
Either the phone has a problem seeing the file or the SDcard is busted. I am inclined to believe it is the former.

Update; problem is solved.

While trying to copy everything to a new SDcard I found a corrupted file, removed and both cards now work properly.

Great to see that the problem is solved. Things can be simple sometimes!
