using an unlocked droid

Okay guys, so after trading in my droid 3 for an iphone 4 ( BIG mistake), I really miss my droid. I was wondering how I could unlock a droid to be used as more of a media device, off of wifi, apps, kind of like an ipod touch with out the restrictions and added awesomeness. Thanks for the help.

Air-plane mode?

Yea, just turn the phone to airplane mode. This turns off the cell radio so you wont be bugged by activations. Then you can turn on wifi or bluetooth and use it as normal.

When I turned on h droid 3 it didn't give me an option to turn it on until activating it through verizon. What happens if I don't have it on airplane mode. Do I have to have to have a sim card. Thanks.

Thanks guys. When I turned on my droid 3 it didn't give me an option to turn it straight on. Also, will ANY droid x2 do? Can you tell me what to look for in the eBay descriptions? Thanks a ton.
